Rev. Dr. Maurice A. Bates,

Senior Pastor

Rev. Dr. Maurice Anthony Bates, an Oakland, CA native, is a dedicated servant of the Lord. He was raised by his grandparents, Deacon Percy V. Bates Sr. and Dorothy M. Bates, and is the big brother of Doretha Yvette Bates. He's happily married to Mrs. Mavis Evette Bates and proud parents of Morgan Alexis Bates and Marc Anthony Van Bates. They also care for their 14-year-old cousin, Josiah Bates.

His education includes undergraduate studies at California Baptist University and ongoing studies at Faith Seminary in Tacoma, Washington. In 2012, he received an honorary doctorate from Next Dimension Bible University and Seminary in Ontario, California.

Pastor Bates actively contributes to the Christian community. He serves as the Executive Director and Moderator of the First Nationwide Christian Association (FNCN), is a former Dean of Christian Education for the California Missionary Baptist State Convention, and served as the former president of I.M.A.P. - International Ministerial Alliance of East Contra Costa.

Pastor Bates is a gifted teacher, known for his practical Biblical approach. He's a Core Facilitator at W.H.W. Ministries, Inc. conference on Expository preaching and teaching. His preaching and teaching have made a significant impact on the Body of Christ, driven by his genuine heart for the lost and his dedication to spiritual growth.

Pastor Bates faithfully serves as the Senior Pastor of both the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Pittsburg, California for over 36 years, and the Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church for 1 year. His ministry began when he was just 14 years old at Morning Star Baptist Church of Oakland, under the guidance of the late Rev. Dr. Lester L. Cannon, Sr. His spiritual journey now continues under Rev. Dr. R.A. Williams of the McCoy Memorial Baptist Church of Los Angeles, CA.
